The Maine Literary Festival is a scholarship project of the Midcoast Branch of the American Association of University Women. All proceeds from the Festival are used for the Midcoast AAUW's scholarship program for young women and girls who might otherwise not be able to attend college.

"Mayhem, Money and Mirth"

In 2007 our authors looked at the human condition through the lenses of mayhem, money and mirth. Whether pound-wise or penny-foolish, cultures clash and families feud, surviving only by recognizing, with a good laugh, that life is a comedy.
Also in 2007 the Maine Literary Festival expanded its highly acclaimed weekend festival to include a writers' workshop for both published and aspiring writers. (Read more...)

Gary Goshgarian aka Gary Braver

Gary Goshgarian is a Professor of English at Northeastern University, where he teaches a variety of undergraduate courses in popular culture (Modern Bestsellers, Science Fiction and Horror Fiction) as well as a graduate Fiction Writing workshop. He is a recipient of Northeastern's Excellence in Teaching Award. For over 20 years he has taught fiction-writing workshops throughout the U.S. and Europe, including the Maui Writers Retreat, Cape Cod Writers Conference, London Writers Conference, Almost Famous Writers Conference (Switzerland), as well as workshops at Brown University, Emerson College, Florida State and elsewhere,

He is the author of six critically acclaimed thrillers - three under his own name (Atlantis Fire, The Stone Circle, Rough Beast ) and three under his recent pen name Gary Braver - Gray Matter, Elixir and Flashback, which in a starred review Publisher's Weekly called "an exceptional medical thriller." Flashback, which was the #1 bestselling medical thriller in the Doubleday Book Club, is also a 2006 winner of the Massachusetts Honor Book Award for fiction - a first for a thriller. Three of his novels have been optioned for motion pictures. His next novel, Skin Deep, a psychological thriller centered on cosmetic surgery, will be published early in 2008.
